HAPPY MONDAY

TEN whole days since my last post and I am STILL struggling to find something exciting to write about. The whole house has had one illness after another. One by one, the kids each came down with bronchitis. Maggie got the least of it, but also caught my sinus cold. Cleaning up snot is so fun.

Today (well last night), Joe came down with the flu. Let’s just say I didn’t sleep well from him getting in and out of bed every 10 minutes. He’s missing school and work today (I made him) and is not very happy about it.

AND THEN… if that’s not bad enough, this morning the kids came upstairs and yelled calmly said, “THE BATHROOM IS FLOODING!!” Sure enough… water was SPEWING (literally) out of the toilet, there was a 2” tall layer of water on the bathroom floor, the entire carpeted hallway floor leading to the bathroom was completely saturated and the whole laundry room floor was covered in water as well, as it is right around the corner from the bathroom. LOVELY. The worst thing about the bathroom flooding is that Joe had the flu. As in, he was in bed. Not cleaning it up. Which means I had to clean it up. Boohoo, I know. But Joe has always cleaned up bathroom messes including throw-up, so I’m feeling a little sorry for myself, OK??!! ;) If that doesn’t just top it off, we don’t didn’t own a plunger. SO, I had to drive down to the store in my jammies, sit in the parking lot for 25 minutes until they opened and buy one. While water (mixed with human waste) ruined my downstairs.

I will try to get my act together and get some stuff done around here, other than cleaning up poop and throw-up. Thanks for reading! HA!

So as I was browsing around my dashboard this afternoon, I came to Vintage Revivals and she challenged us to take the “Find My Style” quiz over at the Home Goods website. SO FUN! And I have to say… I was very happy with what it said my style is. I mean… I know what I like, but it was just so nice to see that maybe I’m actually headed in the right direction. Ya’ know?

Sickies!

Sorry for the lack of posts… we’ve been a little preoccupied around here.

Last week, my oldest daughter came down with bronchitis. We took her in to the doctor on Friday and the doctor prescribed an antibiotic, a steroid, and breathing treatments with albuterol. So it was no surprise to me when Connor started coughing a couple days after she did. For some reason when he gets sick, HE GETS SICK! It really hits him hard! Today he fell asleep doing a breathing treatment. Literally, as soon as I took this picture and set my camera down, the “breathing piece” fell out of his hand.

Poor guy. He finally really crashed after coming in and out of sleep. I made him take off his long sleeve shirt (above) after I checked his temp and it was 103!, but I couldn’t get him to change his pants. He’s serious about the whole “cowboy thing.”

Tomorrow, it’s off to the doctor we go!

Bad Night…

78 things just happened. Haylie and I were just making these cute bunny fruit popsicles for tomorrow (Pictures coming!) while Joe was picking up Connor. Maggie was on a chair eating her 2nd hotdog. As Connor was being picked up, he grabbed onto the chair that Maggie was standing on making it tip over. When the chair tipped over, she fell flat on the back of her head and immediately started screaming. Because she fell on her head, Joe dropped Connor in order to tend to Maggie causing Connor to bang his toe. So- Maggie was screaming, Connor was crying, I was on the verge of throwing up because of the noise made by Maggie’s head smacking the floor and Haylie was still asking if it was time to put the juice in the popsicles. THEN, Maggie wanted me to hold her, but as soon as we walked in the living room, she spotted the “time-out” spot and went and put herself in it. Not sure why… maybe because she was crying? (She puts herself in time-out quite often, actually.) Because Maggie was upset AND had put herself in time-out, Joe felt bad and went to console her. He started to walk downstairs with her and stepped on a laundry basket that was sitting slightly in front of bottom step and rolled his ankle. He fell to the floor, dropping Maggie (carefully this time) moaning and yelling out in pain. I of course, didn’t hear Maggie’s cry for the 2nd time, and assumed the worst, thinking that something really, REALLY bad had happened to her. This all happened within 10 minutes. And surprisingly, everyone’s happily in bed and not permanently injured.

On a brighter note… tomorrow’s Easter! And I am relieved to say that I am not the only one who goes “Easter Bunny” and Easter dinner shopping the night before Easter! The store was packed! But all is well… we are set for tomorrow! We are having homemade cinnamon rolls for breakfast and for dinner we are having bbq chicken, mashed potatoes, cole slaw, fresh fruit and rolls. YUM! This year, we are all alone for Easter… sort of weird, yet exciting at the same time.

Cut up your fruit of choice. I used strawberries, raspberries, bananas and oranges.

Add Capri Sun. We added enough to cover all the fruit.

Put the “sticks” in and take a picture with your cute, freckle-faced, toothless daughter. :)

Stick ‘em in the freezer! So simple!

A Little Change of Scenery

No new projects finished this week, although I am in the middle of one and another on deck!

I thought I’d share a fun drive we went on this past weekend to a place called Sheep Creek Loop. It was the first of probably many weekend drives we’ll go on this Spring and Summer. The first time we drove the loop, (last fall) we quickly claimed it as a favorite. The mountains were bright oranges and reds and yellows. This time, we thought the trees might be starting to bud, but we were WRONG! The trees were still bare and the loop was closed about halfway through due to it still being winter-ish. It still was very beautiful… but I think it’s still most amazing when the road is lined with green.

CUH-RAZY… halfway to the loop, we caught up to Joe’s sister and her family! They were on a Sunday drive as well and decided to follow us through the loop and then we’d stop to have a little picnic. We brought “smore stuff” and they brought sandwiches and we built a fire and it was nice. But then it started snowing and nice turned to cold. We made due, for a little while, with what little extra clothing we had but it really was super cold so we loaded up and headed back to Joe’s parents’ house for some yummy Sunday dinner!

Connor all geared up for our winter picnic! Luckily we had a few things in the trunk and the kids were able to layer up a bit.

Maggie had on a button up sweater, a sweatshirt and Haylie’s coat and was STILL miserable. Maggie’s wailing made us all want to go home!
Haylie is a trooper! She was the only one who wanted to go explore and hike the mountain. All except cousin Naomi, but she kept putting things in her mouth that weren’t considered edible, so she came back and roasted “smarmeshlows” instead.

Yes, smarmeshlows.

Cousin Lucy was a trooper too! She was wearing capris and didn’t complain once!

This spring came right out of the ground at the base of this mountain. Joe tried to get some good pictures, but unfortunately the river that the spring runs into was already a bit too deep and wide for him to get across.

Such a fun and relaxing day! Can’t wait for the weather to warm up a bit so we can go again!!
