Haylie turns 6!!

Haylie’s birthday is August 1st, and we were in Richfield, UT, staying with Joe’s grandparents for a couple of days before heading down to Lake Powell for our vacation. The day started out with a bang! You can’t really tell, because Connor’s hands are in front of his face, but ALL 3 KIDS were crying/whining/wailing in this picture. Maggie didn’t want her seatbelt on. Haylie was just having an all around bad day (at 11 a.m.) because she wanted to spend the day with her cousins and not us.  I can’t really remember what Connor was crying about. Something really important, I’m sure.

Thankfully, things got better when the words, “Watermelon and presents,” were mentioned.

This is the newest member of the Rose family: Grant! He is Will and Elise’s first baby and he honestly looks like this about 98% of the time. He LOVES people. And he loves kids even more. He is the most mellow baby I have ever met, unless he’s hungry. And he is THE BIGGEST daddy’s boy. We are all smitten!!!

P1060761

I may have to frame this picture… I just love it. I can’t believe she’s SIX.

Maggie spent about 2 hours in this swing. Literally. I guess I need to get one…

Now, now now… don’t all speak at once. I know you must all be wondering how in the world I made this cake. It was tricky, let me tell you. Unfortunately, I can’t give away my cooking secrets…
It’s called- boxed cake, store bought frosting and sprinkles. I didn’t really think things through when we were buying our birthday cake, so I had to get a little…. “creative.” It was edible, OK?!

P1060773

Maggie likes food. A lot.

P1060775

Everyone singing the birthday song! As outgoing as Haylie is, she still gets shy sometimes. I love it!

Thank you, oh thank you Auntie Molly for these wonderful little dime sized, Squinky treasures! They are littering my floors all day long and I constantly am pulling them out of Maggie’s mouth (just like you told me I would)! Shh… Don’t tell Grandma Penny… she would have a heart attack. Aunt Molly got in trouble for buying them because of the choking hazard factor. :/

P1060782

Grandma Penny (Joe’s grandma) got Haylie this awesome little stuffed dog that comes with a little doggie carrier. It was a BIG hit!

P1060783

Aunt Molly also got Haylie this Fancy Nancy Ballet Studio toy. Haylie is a huge fan of Fancy Nancy, so thanks Molly!

P1060786

She also got a little pink camping chair from Joe’s parents (and something else, but I can’t remember what it is… bad mom award), a La La Loopsy doll from my mom, an outfit from my Nana, and $35 from Grandma Sue (my other grandma) which she put towards a Camel Back. Joe and I got her some clothes and some Vibram Five Finger shoes. She made a haul! :)
Happy Happy Birthday to my sweet, bossy, adventurous and loveable Haylie. We are so glad you are ours!

Haglund Wedding

OK, OK, OK. It’s been 53 days since my last post. My mom has been waiting ever so patiently for me to update. She’s on a girls’ trip this weekend so I thought I would update this thing and surprise her. ;) I have so much to blog about, if I wait any longer, I’ll never do it.

So on July 29th, we started a 9 day vacation and drove over to Salt Lake to watch Joe’s little sister, Elisabeth, get married. It was beautiful! Unfortunately, I didn’t take my camera with me to the wedding, so the only pictures I have are of the reception. And the place where they had it, was so awesome, I didn’t get one single picture of Haylie or Connor. And Haylie looked SO cute too. There was just too much for them to do! BUT- I did get some of Maggie, so they’ll have to suffice.

Holy drool!

P1060742

This is baby Henry- son of Joe’s Uncle Wells and his wife Holly. I would call her his aunt, but… for some reason, it sounds weird. Probably because Joe is really close in age to them both.

Isn’t he cute???

P1060745

Sorry, Lis. I know you “untagged” yourself in this picture on facebook. But I love it. And you don’t have my password to my blog, so you can’t take it off. :)

P1060748

This is Joe’s whole family, all together for a picture, for the first time in a LONG time! We are so happy to have Joe’s brother Sam back at home. He has been moving around, all over the country, for almost 10 years! I guess he just realized that we are too cool to be away from us anymore. :)

Clockwise from top left: Sam Rose (brother), Joe Rose, Mark Rose (Dad), Will Rose (brother), Tami Rose (Mom), Elisabeth Rose (sister), Rachel Rose (sister).

What a wonderful day! We love you Lis.

Stay tuned! More to come on the rest of our  vacation!

Fort Collins!

This last weekend, the kids and I drove to Fort Collins to see Joe. His new job requires him to work there for a couple weeks at a time, and then he gets to come home for a few days before going back. SO- I decided I didn’t want to be away from him for that long and away we went! Five hours later, we were there! And Fort Collins is AMAZING! I love it there. I could totally live there… except for the fact that it’s 20 hours away from my family.
Anyway, we met Joe at his apartment and then we all drove downtown to people watch and eat dinner. We found this cool restaurant called The Beach House Grill and it was YUMMY! We got to eat up on the rooftop patio and the kids LOVED it. They even had a little kid area where Haylie and Connor spent the majority of their time before our food came. Maggie was not impressed that she had to sit still, again, after being in the car for 5 hours…

(See that bump on Maggie’s tummy? Yes, that would be her extremely LARGE “outie.”)

Afterwards, we walked down to this little bakery/ice cream shop called Mary’s Mountain Cookies where they take homemade GIANT cookies and slap some ice cream in the middle (multiple flavors of both, I might add).
Maggie liked it.

P1060396

P1060397

Haylie and Connor weren’t in to trying new things, so they just got ice cream cones.

P1060399

Joe wanted to take us on a carriage ride around downtown. I’d never been on one before this, and I probably won’t do it again until all of my children are moved out. ;) It really wasn’t that bad, except Connor wanted to sit on the step and ride (as in where you step UP into the carriage). And Maggie didn’t want to sit at all. But, they all loved the horsie and we were all together, which is what really counts!

These are all of the pictures I got. On Father’s Day, we drove South of Fort Collins to Horsetooth Reservoir. We drove around and did some sight seeing about half the time and then parked the other half at the reservoir so the kids could swim. They did some wading and some splashing, but no swimming. It was WAY too cold! The snow just melted, like yesterday, for goodness sakes (OK not really. But not that long ago). I would have taken pictures, except I forgot my camera (but not really. It was in my purse the whole time. Grrr). Great weekend! Great family! Can’t wait to go back.

Big Brothers

Big brothers are the best. I always wished I’d had a big brother... Connor and Maggie have this special bond and they’ve had it since the day she was born; her face always lights up when he walks in the room. She ADORES him and he loves her right back. P1060353

I just thought this was so sweet- he was so patient with Mags as she waddled her way over to the big kid splash pad.

P1060354

He stopped and waited and encouraged.

P1060355

P1060356

She finally crossed “the line” and stepped out into the unknown. And Connor couldn’t have been more pleased.

P1060358

And then there was a big eruption of water and he was off, without a second glance at his poor baby sister. Oh well. :)

P1060361

Maggie didn’t really like the whole water-spraying-in-her-face thing (if you couldn’t tell).

The Old Wyoming State Penitentiary

On Monday, Joe and I and the kids moved back to Green River, and so we thought we better see some of what Rawlins had to offer, before we left. So we went and toured the old Wyoming State Penitentiary, which happened to be just a few blocks from where we lived. I took quite a few pictures, including one of my brother-in-law Sam, in the gas chamber, but those’ll have to wait for another post.

This picture and story really stuck out to me though…
